AI Features Overview
Learn how Kaname's AI capabilities help you capture leads, compose replies, and prioritize your inbox automatically.
Kaname uses AI throughout the product to reduce manual work, surface high-value conversations, and help you compose better replies. This guide explains what each AI feature does and how to use it.
AI Lead Capture
Kaname scans your inbox in real time and flags threads that show buying intent signals. These signals include:
- Inbound questions about pricing, features, or timelines
- Demo or trial requests
- Referral language ("I was told to reach out by...")
- Re-engagement from contacts who had previously gone quiet
- Replies containing words like "interested", "budget", "decision", or "proposal"
When Kaname detects these signals, it:
- Moves the thread to the Hot Leads view in the sidebar
- Assigns a suggested pipeline stage (usually "New" or "Active")
- Adds the contact to CRM → Leads with the thread linked
You can accept, adjust, or dismiss each AI-captured lead from the Hot Leads view.
To review AI-captured leads: Click Hot Leads in the sidebar. Each item shows the thread, the intent signal Kaname detected, and a suggested stage. Click Confirm to add to your pipeline or Dismiss to remove from Hot Leads.
Smart Compose
Smart Compose suggests reply drafts based on the context of the conversation. When you open a thread and click Reply, Kaname can generate a draft based on:
- The content of previous messages in the thread
- Your pipeline stage for this thread
- Your past reply style (learned over time from your sent messages)
To use Smart Compose:
- Open any thread
- Click Reply
- Click the AI Compose or magic wand icon in the compose toolbar
- Review the generated draft
- Edit as needed and send
Smart Compose drafts are starting points — always review before sending. The AI does not have full context about your business relationships, so names, prices, and specific commitments should be verified.
Smart Reply
Smart Reply is a lighter version of Smart Compose — it generates a few short reply options (2–3 sentences each) that you can click to use directly or edit first. Smart Reply is optimized for fast responses to routine messages.
Smart Reply options appear automatically at the bottom of each thread view when Kaname detects that a quick reply is appropriate.
AI Thread Sorting
Kaname does not show threads in simple reverse-chronological order. Instead, it applies an AI-based priority signal that considers:
- Recency — newer threads rank higher
- Lead intent score — threads from prospects rank higher than newsletters
- Follow-up status — threads with overdue follow-ups are elevated
- Stage — Active and Committed threads are prioritized over New threads
- Response time expectations — if you have a response time target configured, threads approaching that deadline are elevated
You do not need to configure anything for AI sorting to work. It operates automatically on all threads in your connected mailboxes.
AI Summary (Thread Summary)
For long threads with many messages, Kaname can generate a brief summary that lets you quickly recall the key points without re-reading everything.
To get a thread summary:
- Open any thread with multiple messages
- Click the Summarize button or the AI icon in the thread toolbar
- A panel opens showing: what was discussed, what was agreed, and what the next action is
Thread summaries are especially useful when you return to a thread after several days away and need to re-orient quickly before writing a follow-up.
Managing AI features
AI features are enabled by default. To configure which AI features are active:
- Go to Settings → Smart Compose or Settings → AI
- Toggle individual features on or off
Some AI features (like Smart Compose) consume AI credits depending on your plan. Check your usage from Settings → Billing.
Privacy and AI
Kaname processes your email content using AI models to power the features described above. This processing happens server-side. Kaname does not sell or share your email content with third parties. See the Privacy Policy for full details on how AI processing works and what data is retained.
